The CIA's station chief in Germany at the time Mohamed Atta was operating his ring out of Hamburg, David Edgar, was recruited by former Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman David Boren to teach at the University of Oklahoma in August of 2001. http://www.historycommons.org/entity.jsp?entity=david_edger_1 Boren was then serving as the university's president in Norman, Oklahoma.

Interestingly, David Edgar was part of the CIA team in Chile during the 1970s that was responsible for overthrowing the government of Salvador Allende. http://bellaciao.org/en/spip.php?article9024 Allende was overthrown on September 11, 1973 (emphasis added).

Boren is widely credited with having groomed George Tenet for his job as CIA Director. Both Boren and Tenet were having breakfast at a posh hotel in Washington, D.C. when news of the 9/11 attacks reached Tenet.

The failure of the 9/11 truth movement to reach consensus on this issue after almost a decade is largely due to a failure to rigorously apply the scientific method to each proposed theory. This paper, by so applying the evidence to each proposed theory, shows that a large plane hitting the Pentagon is by far the most plausible theory.

Due to the incredible number of coincidences proposed by the official reports on the events of September 11, 2001, it makes good sense for citizens to question any improbable claims related to that day. We have been given at least two such odd stories about flights that left Andrews Air Force Base that morning. One represents a highly improbable flight path and the other has produced a contradiction in official accounts.

The first of these flights concerns a large military cargo plane, a C-130H, called Gofer 06. This plane was from the 133rd airlift wing of the Minnesota Air National Guard. The 9/11 Commission Report claims that the Gofer 06 pilot and crew were first-hand witnesses to the demise of both Flight 77 and Flight 93.

Senators Demand the Military Lock Up American Citizens in a
"Battlefield" They Define as Being Right Outside Your Window

While nearly all Americans head to family and friends to celebrate
Thanksgiving, the Senate is gearing up for a vote on Monday or Tuesday
that goes to the very heart of who we are as Americans. The Senate
will be voting on a bill that will direct American military resources
not at an enemy shooting at our military in a war zone, but at
American citizens and other civilians far from any battlefield — even
people in the United States itself.

Senators need to hear from you, on whether you think your front yard
is part of a "battlefield" and if any president can send the military
anywhere in the world to imprison civilians without charge or trial.

The Senate is going to vote on whether Congress will give this
president—and every future president — the power to order the military
to pick up and imprison without charge or trial civilians anywhere in
the world. Even Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) raised his concerns about the
NDAA detention provisions during last night's Republican debate. The
power is so broad that even U.S. citizens could be swept up by the
military and the military could be used far from any battlefield, even
within the United States itself.

The worldwide indefinite detention without charge or trial provision
is in S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act bill, which will
be on the Senate floor on Monday. The bill was drafted in secret by
Sens. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) and passed in a
closed-door committee meeting, without even a single hearing.

I know it sounds incredible. New powers to use the military worldwide,
even within the United States? Hasn't anyone told the Senate that
Osama bin Laden is dead, that the president is pulling all of the
combat troops out of Iraq and trying to figure out how to get combat
troops out of Afghanistan too? And American citizens and people picked
up on American or Canadian or British streets being sent to military
prisons indefinitely without even being charged with a crime. Really?
Does anyone think this is a good idea? And why now?

The answer on why now is nothing more than election season politics.
The White House, the Secretary of Defense, and the Attorney General
have all said that the indefinite detention provisions in the National
Defense Authorization Act are harmful and counterproductive. The White
House has even threatened a veto. But Senate politics has propelled
this bad legislation to the Senate floor.

But there is a way to stop this dangerous legislation. Sen. Mark Udall
(D-Colo.) is offering the Udall Amendment that will delete the harmful
provisions and replace them with a requirement for an orderly
Congressional review of detention power. The Udall Amendment will make
sure that the bill matches up with American values.

In support of this harmful bill, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)
explained that the bill will "basically say in law for the first time
that the homeland is part of the battlefield" and people can be
imprisoned without charge or trial "American citizen or not." Another
supporter, Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) also declared that the bill is
needed because "America is part of the battlefield."

The solution is the Udall Amendment; a way for the Senate to say no to
indefinite detention without charge or trial anywhere in the world
where any president decides to use the military. Instead of simply
going along with a bill that was drafted in secret and is being jammed
through the Senate, the Udall Amendment deletes the provisions and
sets up an orderly review of detention power. It tries to take the
politics out and put American values back in.

In response to proponents of the indefinite detention legislation who
contend that the bill "applies to American citizens and designates the
world as the battlefield," and that the "heart of the issue is whether
or not the United States is part of the battlefield," Sen. Udall
disagrees, and says that we can win this fight without worldwide war
and worldwide indefinite detention.

The senators pushing the indefinite detention proposal have made their
goals very clear that they want an okay for a worldwide military
battlefield, that even extends to your hometown. That is an extreme
position that will forever change our country.

Now is the time to stop this bad idea. Please urge your senators to
vote YES on the Udall Amendment to the National Defense Authorization
Act.

UPDATE: Don't be confused by anyone claiming that the indefinite
detention legislation does not apply to American citizens. It does.
There is an exemption for American citizens from the mandatory
detention requirement (section 1032 of the bill), but no exemption for
American citizens from the authorization to use the military to
indefinitely detain people without charge or trial (section 1013 of
the bill). So, the result is that, under the bill, the military has
the power to indefinitely imprison American citizens, but it does not
have to use its power unless ordered to do so.

But you don't have to believe us. Instead, read what one of the bill's
sponsors, Sen. Lindsey Graham said about it on the Senate floor:
"1031, the statement of authority to detain, does apply to American
citizens and it designates the world as the battlefield, including the
homeland."

There you have it — indefinite military detention of American citizens
without charge or trial. And the Senate is likely to vote on it Monday
or Tuesday.

Abstract:

Do we know today what happened on 9/11? As a historian facing this question, I find that there are two completely different narratives in the U.S. One narrative claims that 9/11 was carried out by Osama Bin Laden and a group of Muslim terrorists. This narrative can be labeled as that of U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and is the official version of events. A completely different narrative of 9/11 was offered by U.S. Professor David Ray Griffin, who claims that the Bush administration manipulated 9/11 in one way or another and was thus involved in the crime and used it as a pretext for wars of aggression in Afghanistan and Iraq. This is the alternative version of events. I will present the most important claims of both Cheney and Griffin and show where and why they contradict each other. I will also demonstrate that this controversial 9/11 debate reaches audiences across the world including Japan, Switzerland, Pakistan, Germany and Russia.

Daniele Ganser is a Swiss historian who specializes in international relations and international history from 1945 to today. He studied Ancient and Modern History, Philosophy, English Literature and International Relations at Basel University in Switzerland, Amsterdam University in the Netherlands, and at the London School of Economics and Political Science in England. He obtained his Masters degree in history summa cum laude and his PhD in history insigni cum laude. His PhD "NATO's Secret Armies. Operation Gladio and Terrorism in Western Europe" was translated into ten languages. He speaks German, Italian, English and French.

His research interests are peace research, geostrategy, secret warfare, resource wars, globalization and human rights. He served as Senior Researcher with the Think Tank Avenir Suisse and the Center for Security Studies at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. In cooperation with the Swiss Foreign Ministry (the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs) he investigated the impact of globalization on war and peace and researched how Swiss and international companies support and profit from war, or alternatively, promote peace through corporate social responsibility. He teaches at Basel University in Switzerland and has been invited several times by the Swiss parliament and Swiss national television to offer his expertise on matters of foreign and security policy.

Anwar al-Awlaki, a US-born al-Qaeda leader, was killed in a drone strike in central Yemen, the country's military has announced.

Fluent in English and driven by a hatred of his homeland, Awlaki has been a pivotal figure in the group. A skilled propagandist, he was the spokesman for al-Qaeda in the Arabian Penninsula (AQAP) and had inspired daring attacks by the group worldwide.

Yemeni security forces said they had conducted an operation to target Awlaki and his bodyguards in Marib province. Western sources said a US drone strike had hit his convoy in a remote area and that local military commanders had confirmed his death.

President Barack Obama authorised the US military to target Awlaki last year, a controversial and legally fraught move in light of his US citizenship. Awlaki had inspired serval audacious attacks in recent years including the 2009 Christmas underwear bomber, an attack in Fort Hood military base by a US army major and the stabbing of Stephen Timms MP.

One tribal chief in the area of the attack said that the plane that carried out the strike was likely to be American, adding that US aircraft had been patrolling the skies over Marib for the past several days.

If anyone ever needed proof that the two major parties are complicit in promoting and perpetuating America's national security state, the September 15^th visit to Bloomington by members of the 9/11 Commission offered the evidence required.

Eight of the ten Commission members, including Chairman Thomas Kean and Vice Chairman Lee Hamilton, spoke at the I.U. Auditorium during a two hour panel discussion hosted by Ken Bode. Bode, who currently teaches journalism at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana is the former host of PBS's Washington Week in Review. Approximately 2,000 people attended the event.

The two commission members who did not appear were former Secretary of the Navy John Lehman and Richard Ben-Veniste.¹

The orgy of self-congratulation that characterized the event began with Chairman Thomas Kean stating, "Everybody has respect for Lee Hamilton, an extraordinary public servant."

Lee Hamilton, who represented Indiana's 9^th District, which encompasses Bloomington, from 1965 to 1999, provided the impetus for bringing together the commission members on the I.U. campus for the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of 9/11. This was the first time all eight had been together since completing their controversial report.

The hastily arranged decision to hold the discussion at Indiana University in Bloomington may have been in part motivated by the decision of the College of Arts and Sciences, American Studies Program to sponsor a "Themester" series: "Extreme Politics: Provoking the Body Politic to War?" The date they chose for their panel discussion coincided with a talk given later that evening by Peter Dale Scott on the "American War Machine: Deep Politics and the Road to Extended Wars."

In his opening remarks, Chairman Kean rather revealingly let slip, in referring to his fellow commissioners, "Everybody has had experience with the intelligence community and it sucks you in." His remark sounded something like a confession.

Vice Chairman Lee Hamilton certainly fits that bill. While in Congress, Hamilton served as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He also chaired the committee that investigated Iran Contra. As Michel Chossudovsky of the Center for Research on Globalization has noted, by failing to investigate wrongdoing by President Reagan and Vice President George Herbert Walker Bush, Hamilton helped to perform "damage control" for the administration.²

In 1992, Lee Hamilton also chaired the committee that investigated The October Surprise, a covert plot by the 1980 Reagan Campaign to encourage the Iranians to withhold release of American Hostages until after the election in order to deprive President Carter a last minute boost in the polls. According to the late Sarah McClendon, who served as White House correspondent for decades, Lee Hamilton cut a deal with his Republican counterpart on the committee, Henry Hyde, to exonerate President Bush who was suspected of having traveled to Paris as Reagan's running-mate at the time to negotiate the deal with the Iranians.³ Suspiciously, the hostages were finally released on the day of Reagan's inauguration after 444 days in captivity. In return, the Reagan Administration would secretly begin supplying arms to the Iranians, which would become the basis for the Iran Contra affair.

Another Hoosier who served on the 9/11 Commission was Tim Roemer, a native of South Bend who represented Indiana's 3^rd Congressional District between 1991 and 2003. Roemer set the tone of bi-partisanship that was a recurring theme throughout the discussion. After stating that there were "no shy or wilting flowers up here," he lavished praise on Lee Hamilton for early on stating that he would not issue any press conferences without Thomas Kean by his side.

Although the response of the audience was tepid at best, whenever bipartisanship was brought up the audience would applaud. After all, if Democrats and Republicans both agree on something it must be good, or so goes the conventional wisdom.

Roemer noted that the 9/11 victim's families were instrumental in their coming together and their unity of purpose.

Jamie Gorelick, who had served as Deputy Attorney General in the Clinton Administration, was the lone female on the panel. She emphasized, "If you have an engaged citizenry you get better government." She went on to add, "We asked the tough questions because we knew the public was watching us."

While serving under Attorney General Janet Reno, Gorelick had been responsible for issuing the "wall memo" that would later be used as the excuse for why the FBI intelligence division was unable to "connect the dots" with its own criminal division. This would later be used to explain the bizarre behavior of senior personnel in the FBI to refuse to allow field agents to investigate Zacharias Moussaoui, despite as many as 70 requests for a warrant to search his belongings after he raised suspicions among flight instructors at the Pan-Am International flight school in Eagan, Minnesota.⁴

The wall had allegedly been put in place as a result of the Aldrich Aimes case in order to prevent evidence gathered under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978, which has less stringent requirements than a criminal warrant from jeopardizing prosecutions. At least that's the excuse that was given. Gorelick's "wall memo" would be cited as one of the excuses for why the FBI was unable to "connect the dots."

As a portent of draconian measures to come, commission member James Thompson warned of vulnerabilities to our nation's civilian sector as a result of cyber threats. He warned that more stringent security measures needed to be implemented to protect such critical infrastructure as utilities, and the financial system that are vulnerable to attack over the Internet.

Lee Hamilton chimed in that, in the last few months there had been a rapid increase in the awareness of policy makers to the threat posed by cyber attacks. (Of course, he didn't mention that the Internet is also the source of most of the information exposing inconsistencies about 9/11 and official wrong-doing.)

Some of the most ominous remarks came from former Senator Bob Kerrey of Nebraska (not to be confused with Massachusetts Senator John Kerry), who repeatedly extolled the virtues of the Bush and Obama Administration policies of extra-judicial assassination, stating that, "Anyone who threatens to kill Americans are going to be taken out." During the Vietnam War Kerrey lead a Navy Seal assassination squad as part of Operation Phoenix that was implicated in the massacre of unarmed men, women and children in the South Vietnamese Village of Thanh Phong.⁵

When the subject of Ben Laden's death came up, Kerrey responded, "What did the death of Osama bin Laden accomplish? It made me feel better."

Timothy Roemer pointed out that he was in India when Osama bin Laden was "brought to justice" and taken out. Even according to official accounts, the person claimed to have been Bin Laden was unarmed at the time of his killing. The members of the 9/11 Commission seemed little concerned about the rule of law or the suspicious manner in which "Osama's" body was quickly disposed of in the Arabian Sea.⁶

Bob Kerrey dismissed charges of a government conspiracy surrounding 9/11, saying, "Two people can't keep a secret in Washington." He neglected to mention that the National Institute of Standards and Technology is still refusing to release the data for their computer models used to determine that Building 7 collapsed as a result of fire. The reason given that "it might jeopardize public safety."⁷

Slade Gorton, a former Senator from Washington State whose law firm represents Boeing, the company that built the planes used in the 9/11 attacks, observed that halfway through the 9/11 Commission hearings marked the twentieth anniversary of the Kennedy assassination. He then went on to tout a "persuasive" National Geographic documentary that he claimed proved conclusively that conspiracy theories about 9/11 are without merit.

He then posed the question, "Do we need another investigation? Hell no!"

Commission member Fred Fielding, who Richard Nixon once suspected of being "Deep Throat," postulated that the failure to prevent 9/11 was the result of "a lack of imagination." He added, "No one had any idea that planes might be used as a weapon."

As Peter Dale Scott would note later that evening at a talk he gave elsewhere on campus, on the very day of 9/11 the National Reconnaissance Office was in the process of conducting a simulated drill in which an airplane would be "crashed" into its high-rise headquarters.⁸

For two years leading up to 9/11 the North American Aerospace Defense Command ran drills with scenarios in which hijacked airlines would be used as weapons against targets, including the World Trade Center.⁹

Interestingly, after completing his work with the 9/11 Commission, Fielding, who served as counsel for the George W. Bush Administration, would go on to represent the security firm Blackwater.¹⁰

In response to a question submitted in advance about why Building 7 had not been included in the 9/11 Commission Report, Lee Hamilton said the reason was because it was still being investigated at the time they issued their report. He added, "We had the best engineers to look at building 7." According to the experts he cited, debris fell on building 7, causing fires and heat to build up resulting in the building's collapse.

Hamilton claimed that he had not seen any credible professional challenge to the conclusions of the American Society of Consulting Engineers or National Institute for Standards and Technology (the name of which he trouble recalling).

Throughout the appearance there was heckling from the crowd. At the conclusion, one member of the audience stood up and shouted, "We need a new investigation! 1500 Architects and Engineers want a new investigation!" He was then hustled from the auditorium by police, a rather fitting end for the tenth anniversary commemoration of 9/11.

Group lobbies legislatures to investigate 9/11 truth

Members of the Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth held a rally yesterday outside the Middlesex County Courthouse on 56 Paterson Street to ask the prosecutor's office to investigate the collapse of the World Trade Center, which the organization believes was caused by bombs inside the towers.

The organization handed out literature to pedestrians on the street that contained statements from engineers and architects who believe nano-thermite explosives caused the collapse of the Twin Towers and Building 7, said David Meiswinkle, state coordinator for Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth.

"[The building contained] some unignited and some partially ignited nano-thermite," he said. "One of the foremost experts on the explosive, Niels Harrit, has said it was the cause for the buildings coming down."

Meiswinkle, a criminal defense and trial attorney who served as the University's student body president from 1971 to 1972, said the organization is pushing for an investigation and sent information to the prosecutor's offices in all 21 counties.

"Law enforcement's job is to find the suspects. And we're saying that the evidence points in a different direction," he said. "We want them to investigate this."

The Middlesex County prosecutor's office was not available for comment at press time.

Although the federal government already conducted an investigation, state and county officials are free to start their own investigations, Meiswinkle said.

"Seventeen of the state's 21 counties had citizens who were victims. The worst was Bergen County, with 123 victims and Monmouth County [with] 122," he said.

The organization did not take a position on who was to blame for detonating the building, said Meiswinkle, who served as a New Brunswick police officer for 23 years.

"We purposely don't want to point fingers," he said. "The reason being that credibility is in objectivity."

Denise Morgan, Meiswinkle's assistant, said Meiswinkle has a history of advocacy extending to his time at the University.

"David was the one who advocated and got the administration to introduce handicapped-[accessible] buses with hydraulic lifts," she said.

Morgan worked in the Dean of Students' office from 1970 to 1972 and said Meiswinkle was considered radical on campus.

"He pushed for co-ed education, he pushed for an entire river dorm building, which didn't have electricity and proper water to be renovated and fixed," she said. "Whenever there was a problem on campus David stood on a soapbox, and he got the job done."

John Smith, who works at the barbershop across the street from the county courthouse, said the rally's gesture was good, but he was not supportive of the effort.

"We'll never know how they came down, just like we'll never know who killed John F. Kennedy," he said. "We can only speculate, whoever designed it are the only people who knew, and they're probably dead."

Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth will also screen a documentary featuring engineers and architects who claim the fire was not the cause for the collapse of the World Trade Center towers, Meiswinkle said.

"The documentary is narrated by actor Ed Asner, who supports the organization," he said.

After the 10-year anniversary of the attacks, the organization plans to speak to Congress and ask them to reinvestigate the events that lead to the collapse of the World Trade Center, he said.

Meiswinkle said the 9/11 Commission report left many details out, and even former N.J. state Gov. Thomas Kean agrees it was set up to fail.

"Justice has not been done, instead the report ripped a giant hole in the soul of the country," he said. "We respect law enforcement. We're saying that they are the guardians of the society, they are the protectors, and that's why we invited them here.

It's interesting that Philip Zelikow, who directed the 9/11 Commission investigation will be serving on Obama's intelligence advisory board along with David Boren. Boren is the former chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. He was responsible for grooming George Tenet to become CIA director. Boren and Tenet were having breakfast at the St. Regis Hotel in Washington, D.C. at the time the 9/11 attacks occurred. After leaving the Senate, David Boren became president of the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. In August 2001 the former CIA Station Chief in Berlin, David Edger, was recruited by Boren to teach in the Political Science department at the University of Oklahoma. With Philip Zelikow and David Boren advising him, no wonder President Obama is supporting al-Qaeda rebels in Libya.

Friday, September 9 through Sunday, September 11, 2011, thousands of 9/11 truthers will descend on New York City, seeking answers to questions that six of the 9/11 commissioners have themselves raised.

New York, NY, September 01, 2011 --(PR.com)-- As the world watches Manhattan for the opening of the national 9/11 memorial on the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001, the NYC chapter of We Are Change calls on citizens in New York City and across the nation to demand a new investigation into the events of that day. Friday, September 9 through Sunday, September 11, 2011, thousands of 9/11 truthers will descend on New York City, seeking answers to questions that six of the 9/11 commissioners have themselves raised.

John Farmer, Senior Counsel to the 9/11 Commission stated in his book The Ground Truth: The Story Behind America's Defense on 9/11, "At some level of the government, at some point in time...there was an agreement not to tell the truth about what happened."

In November 2003, after the White House set conditions for the examination of documents, 9/11 commissioner Max Cleland said, "If this decision stands, I, as a member of the commission, cannot look any American in the eye, especially family members of victims, and say the commission had full access. This investigation is now compromised."

"If 6 out of 10 of the 9/11 Commissioners say we need a true independent investigation into the events of that day, why is the media, and mainstream so opposed to it?" asks Danny Panzella, a life-long NYC resident and member of We Are Change NYC.

Over the anniversary weekend, WACNYC will host marches and street actions to bring attention to the issue of 9/11 truth. The actions will begin Friday, September 9th at 12:00pm at the Council on Foreign Relations building at Park Avenue and East 68th street, continuing on to the United Nations building. Saturday, September 10th from 12:00pm – 4:00pm, citizens will participate in street actions at Ground Zero. Interestingly, one of the authors of this study is Bruce Riedel. Reidel is a former CIA operative who has worked as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Middle Eastern Affairs. Collateral Damage: U.S. Covert Operations and the Terrorist Attacks on 9/11
The September 11th attacks were likely meant as a cover-up for financial crimes being investigated by the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), whose offices in the Pentagon were destroyed on September 11th. [1] The attacks ... were intended to cover-up the clearing of $240 billion dollars in securities covertly created in September 1991 to fund a covert economic war against the Soviet Union, during which 'unknown' western investors bought up much of the Soviet industry, with a focus on oil and gas.

The 9/11 attacks also served to derail multiple Federal investigations of crimes associated with the 1991 covert operation. Hundreds of billions of dollars of government securities had to be destroyed. A critical mass of brokers from the major government security brokerages in the Twin Towers had to be eliminated to create chaos in the government securities market. A situation needed to be created wherein $240 billion dollars of covert securities could be electronically "cleared" without anyone asking questions – which happened when the Federal Reserve declared an emergency and invoked its "emergency powers" that very afternoon. [4]
There were three major securities brokers in the World Trade Center: Cantor Fitzgerald, Eurobrokers and Garbon Inter Capital. Cantor Fitzgerald was the largest securities dealer in the US [7] and arguably the primary target. [8] 41% of the fatalities in the Twin Towers came from Cantor Fitzgerald and Eurobrokers. [13] 31% of the 125 fatalities in the Pentagon were from the Naval Command Center that housed the Office of Naval Intelligence. 39 of 40 Office of Naval Intelligence employees died. The Naval Command Center had been moved into that newly opened section of the Pentagon only a month earlier. [21] And in the vaults beneath the World Trade Center Towers, any certificates for bonds were destroyed. [14]

On that fateful day, the Securities and Exchange Commission declared a national emergency, and for the first time in U.S. history, invoked its emergency powers under Securities Exchange Act Section 12(k) easing regulatory restrictions for clearing and settling security trades for the next 15 days. These changes would allow an estimated $240 billion in covert government securities to be cleared upon maturity without the standard regulatory controls around identification of ownership. [19]

The Origins of the World Trade Center Attack
Emboldened by the lack of consequences for subverting the U.S. constitution and breaking international law during the Iran-Contra scandal of the 1980s, a Bush administration group known as "the Vulcans" planned a bigger drive to crush Communism once and for all. They waged war against the Soviet Union and Iraq under George H.W. Bush, and against Iraq and Afghanistan under George W. Bush. Belonging to this group were Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Armitage, and Condoleezza Rice. [31]
The Vulcan's drive to bring an end to the Cold War was fueled by a covert war chest invisible to congressional oversight. [32] This war chest would be known by several names: Black Eagle Trust, the Marcos gold, Yamashita's Gold, the Golden Lily Treasure, the Durham Trust or Project Hammer. [33] The program also seems to have lined the pockets of the individuals that executed this policy. This was done to the tune of a staggering $240 billion dollars in covert and allegedly illegal bonds, which appear to have been replaced with Treasury notes backed by U.S. taxpayers in the aftermath of September 11.
The covert securities used to accomplish the national security objective of ending the Cold War ended up in the vaults of the brokers in the World Trade Center, and were destroyed on September 11, 2001. [36] They came due for settlement and clearing on September 12. The federal Agency investigating these bonds – The Office of Naval Intelligence – was in the section of the Pentagon that was destroyed on 9/11. [37]

To this key group of senior National Security officials called the Vulcans, who had participated in the victory of the economic cold war in 1991, the WTC, the Pentagon, the four airliners and their occupants would became 'collateral' damage in the ending of the Cold War. Their deaths were required to hide the existence of the Black Eagle Trust, and the covert activities it had funded for over 50 years. The destruction of these lives and buildings constituted a cover-up of continued lawlessness by a fraternity or brotherhood of businessmen and criminals often referred to as 'the Enterprise' in the 1980s, though it has remained in the shadows since.
Numerous sources have documented that at the end of WWII, the treasury of the Japanese Empire was discovered in the Philippines by a staff member of General Charles Willoughby, [Edward Lansdale], who was General MacArthur's chief of Intelligence. Then known as the Golden Lily Treasure, this mass of wealth had been accumulated by the Japanese through over fifty years of pillaging by its army in Southeast Asia and China. It was deposited in the Philippines due to the U.S. submarine blockade of Japan. Reports vary, but documents in the public domain suggest the recovered treasure was in excess of 280,000 metric tonnes of gold, not including jewels and diamonds. [40] After the War [Lansdale] tortured Major Kojima Kashii – General Yamashita Tomoyuki's driver – until he revealed and created a map of the gold sites. [41]
Lansdale briefed Assistant Secretary of War John J. McCloy about the findings, and a U.S. Cabinet level decision was made to confiscate the gold and cover-up its discovery. The gold would be added to the Black Eagle Trust fund. It was McCloy, along with Secretary of the Navy Robert B. Anderson and Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson who created the Black Eagle Trust. [42]

John McCloy, who had shared a box at the 1939 Olympics with Adolph Hitler, went on to become President of the World Bank. Robert Anderson would go on to operate the Commercial Exchange Bank in the British West Indies, be convicted of running illegal banking operations and tax evasion, and be sentenced to prison. [43] A fourth member of that group – William 'Wild Bill' Donovan – would go on to found the CIA and distribute the gold to key banks represented by his staffers.

The trust they created takes its name from the Nazi Black Eagle stamped on the gold bars of the Third Reich. Gold bullion confiscated from the Reich and not returned to its rightful owners and their heirs was the original source of funding for this trust. [44] Over the years, the significance of the Nazi gold would pale in comparison to the confiscated Japanese treasure.

The men responsible for initiating and executing the confiscation of Nazi and Japanese treasury gold represented the most senior Intelligence officers in the U.S. and Britain at the end of World War II, and the Cabinet of the President of the United States. The financial institutions represented by these individuals would become the major financial banks in the world, along with the Swiss-German banks they hid their gold in. The Yamashita gold would become the cornerstone of the Black Eagle Fund, from which many covert operations of the U.S. intelligence would be funded. [58]
Lansdale's operation in the Philippines gave birth to most of the common features of modern covert operations for U.S. Intelligence: bribery, theft, torture, and false flag operations. It would be Lansdale who would initiate a bond between the US intelligence organizations and Israeli intelligence. It would be Lansdale that would set precedents for the Intelligence community to retain the services of organized crime on U.S. soil. Lansdale would hire American Mafia family heads Carlos Marcello, Santos Trafficante, Meyer Lansky, and Lucky Luciano in the U.S. war against Fidel Castro in 1961.

It would be Lansdale's team that would propose and justify sacrificing innocent U.S. civilians in order to rally the American citizenry to support an invasion of foreign soil. This was done under a program run by Brigadier General William H. Craig, who reported to Lansdale for the Cuba project. [61] This project was called Operation Northwoods. Documents for this project would be accidentally released from the files of Robert McNamara into the public domain some 40 years later, exposing the degree to which Lansdale's operatives would go to wage war. [62] These declassified documents revealed secret plans of the U.S. military to wage a fabricated "terror" campaign against US citizens as a pretext to justify a second invasion of Cuba.

Barrick Gold would become an investment for nearly every gold bullion bank associated with the Marcos gold recovery. These banks would loan gold to Barrick, which would then sell the borrowed gold as derivatives, with the promise of replacing the borrowed gold with their gold mining operation. The records of many of those transactions disappeared when Enron collapsed and the trading operation and all its records were taken over by UBS, another major recipient of Marcos gold. The FBI was reportedly conducting an investigation into those transactions, and the investigation files were kept on the 23rd floor of the North Tower of the WTC. A review of the personal accounts of September 11 now suggests that office was deliberately targeted with explosives prior to the collapse of the WTC towers. [73]

Taking Control
In November 1980, Ronald Reagan was elected to the White House. Sixty-nine days after the inauguration, John Hinckley attempted to assassinate President Reagan. Eight days prior to that attempt, there were a series of unprecedented policy changes that put George Bush in charge of Foreign Policy and National Security. That conferred new roles and powers on Bush, including "unprecedented powers for a vice president." [85] Vice President George Bush was named the leader of the United States "crisis management'' staff, as a part of the National Security Council system. [86] Then, on March 30, 1981, just eight days after these powers were conferred on Bush, President Reagan was shot.

The father of the assassin that put Bush in power was John (a.k.a. Jack) Hinckley, Sr., the owner of Vanderbilt Oil. Hinckley had been giving maximum donations every year to George H.W. Bush since he started running for Congress. In The Black Hole of Guyana: The Untold Story of the Jonestown Massacre, John Judge painstakingly documents that Jonestown was a CIA operation for converting dispossessed and lonely refugees into assassins. In an operation that was falling under Congressional investigation, the evidence had to be eliminated – and nearly all the inhabitants were murdered to prevent disclosure. [88]

A key player in the Marcos gold would be Banker's Trust, which was taken over by Alex Brown & Sons, after Banker's Trust floundered financially on its Russian loans in the mid 1990s. These Russian loans were facilitated by Enron, starting in August of 1993, and very possibly were part of the Project Hammer takeover of Soviet industry. Alex Brown's involvement would bring to the forefront the names of three names of individuals who would play multiple roles in this mystery: Buzz Krongard, Mayo Shattuck, and J Carter Beese.

Buzz Krongard is reported as the mentor of Beese and Shattuck from their years together at Alex Brown. Additionally, he managed the merger between Bankers Trust and Deutschebank Alex Brown. Bankers Trust, Zurich was a key Marcos gold holder. Krongard would move on to become Chairman of the investment bank A.B. Brown, Vice Chairman of Banker's Trust, and Executive Director of the CIA at the time of September 11.
Mayo Shattuck would be reported to be the personal banker for Adnan Khashoggi and Edgar Bronfmann during their partnership at Barrick Gold. [107] He would move on to become the CEO of Deutschebank who would resign for unexplained reasons the day after September 11, and would not be at the WTC office that day when the tower collapsed. It was his bank that was identified as the source of the illegal stock options that indicated there was insider trading taking advantage of the September 11 tragedy.
What happened to the Marcos gold after it was confiscated by U.S. agents in 1986 has never been reported, but throughout the early 1990s, the world gold market would be befuddled by the mysterious appearance of thousands of tonnes of gold which appeared to suppress the price of gold.

In preparation for their war against Communism, and in the years leading up to the failed – or faux – coup of 1991 which initiated the last days of Gorbachev and the rise of Yeltsin, Bush and a cadre of rogue KGB officials built a complex international network of banks and holding companies that would be used to take over ownership of the Soviet economy. Over 300 of these KGB turncoats who supported this operation would later be re-located to the US in the early 1990s and pensioned. [111] Periodic CIA reports to Congress would review KGB and organized crime complicity in the takeover of Russia by criminal elements, but all mention of the formidable role of the U.S. would be expunged from Congressional oversight and the public record. [112]

In the first phase of the economic attack on the Soviet Union, George Bush authorized Leo Wanta and others to destabilize the ruble and facilitate the theft of the Soviet/Russian treasury. This would result in draining the Russian treasury of between 2,000 to 3,000 tonnes of gold bullion, ($35 billion at the time). [113] The gold was 'stolen' in March of 1991, facilitated by Leo Wanta and signed off by Boris Yeltsin's right hand man. The majority of the leaked reports from the CIA and FBI suggest the theft of the Russian treasury was a KGB and Communist party operation, but what those reports omitted was the extensive involvement of Boris Yeltsin, the U.S. banking industry and the CIA.
In the second phase, Wanta, George Soros and a group of Bush appointees would begin to destabilize the ruble. There were two major operations: the largest was coordinated by Alan Greenspan and Oliver North, and implemented by Leo Wanta.

The 9/11 Cover-up and the Black Eagle Trust
With an understanding of the economic war being waged on the Soviet Union, the focus needs to turn to reports that on September 11, 1991, President George Bush was responsible for issuing $240 billion dollars in secretive bonds as a part of this attack on the Russian ruble. There are six lines of evidence from eight sources that suggest this was indeed the case. Many of these instances are corroborated with documents available on the Internet, presented by those making the claims. [174]
The bonds sat for ten years, like a ticking time bomb. They had to be settled – or cashed in by September 12, 2001. The two firms in the U.S. most likely to be handling them would be Cantor Fitzgerald and Eurobrokers – the two largest government securities firms in the U.S. The federal agency mostly involved in investigating those transactions was the Office of Naval Intelligence. On 9/11, those same three organizations: the two largest government securities brokers and the Office of Naval Intelligence in the US took direct hits.
What happened inside the buildings of the World Trade on September 11 is difficult, but not impossible to discern. The government has put a seal on the testimony gathered by the investigating 911 Commission, and instructed government employees to not speak on the matter or suffer severe penalties, but there are a number of personal testimonies posted on the Internet as to what happened in those buildings that day.

Careful reconstruction from those testimonies indicates the deliberate destruction of evidence not only by a targeted assault on the buildings, but also by targeted fires and explosions. In the event that either the hijacking failed, or the buildings were not brought down, the evidence would be destroyed by fires. In addition to the investigative evidence being destroyed, the Federal Register reported that the physical securities held by the brokers in their vaults had been destroyed.
What would be even more revealing would be the actions of the Federal Reserve Bank and the Securities and Exchange Commission on that day, and in the immediate aftermath. As one of many coincidences on 9/11, the Federal Reserve Bank was operating its information system from its remote back-up site rather than it's downtown headquarters. The SEC and Federal Reserve system remained unfazed by the attack. All of their systems continued to operate. The two major security trading firms had their trade data backed up on remote systems. Nevertheless, the Commission for the first time invoked its emergency powers under Securities Exchange Act Section 12(k) and issued several orders to ease certain regulatory restrictions temporarily.
The Federal Reserve Suspends the Rules

On the first day of the crisis, the SEC lifted "Rule 15c3-3: Customer Protection – Reserves and Custody of Securities." Thus GSCC [Government Securities Clearing Corporation] was thus allowed to substitute other securities for the physical securities destroyed during the attack. "…collateral substitutions can and should be made with regard to immediately maturing collateral." [191] At this point in time, the Federal Reserve and its GSCC had created a settlement environment totally void of controls and reporting – where it could substitute valid, new government securities for the mature, illegal securities, and not have to record where the original bad securities had come from, or where the new securities went – all because the paper for the primary brokers for US securities had been eliminated.

A review of the explanations for the actions of the Federal Reserve after September 11th exposes an amazingly complex web of analysis and speculation. The reports published by the Federal Reserve argue that the Federal Reserve's actions increasing the monetary supply by over $300 billion were justified to overcome operational difficulties in the financial sector. While impressive as the reports are, what is noted by the casual reader is that all of the Federal Reserve analysis is speculative and suggestive, using phraseology such as "may have," "likely," "presumably," or "should have." There are few – if any – definitive statements about root cause and the appropriateness of the Federal Reserve response.

While the Fed was reporting outstanding account balances of over $100 billion per day (while not identifying the banks involved), the Wall Street Journal reported that at one point during the week after 9/11, BoNY was publicly reported to be overdue on $100 billion in payments. [198] The Deutschebank, which sat inside the WTC and was totally decimated, reported no such account balance increase, and JP Morgan, the other of only two clearing banks which uses the same traders and communications hub, reported no such increase in its account balance. No one has publicly asked: why is it that these other two banks were not seriously disrupted, while the Bank of New York – which had no structural damage – seemed unable to operate?

Certain key unknown figures in the Federal Reserve may have 'conspired' with key unknown figures at the Bank of New York to create a situation where $240 billion in off balance sheet securities created in 1991 as part of an official covert operation to overthrow the Soviet Union, could be cleared without publicly acknowledging their existence. These securities, originally managed by Cantor Fitzgerald, were cleared and settled in the aftermath of September 11th through the BoNY. The $100 billion account balance bubble reported by the Wall Street Journal as being experienced in the BoNY was tip of a three day operation, when these securities were moved from off-balance-sheet to the balance sheet.

[As reported on page 12 of a Federal Reserve document] "In the absence of complete information on deliveries into and out of its account at BoNY on September 11, and as a result of its assumption of settlement fails on the starting legs of blind-brokered RPs, GSCC recorded (after the close of business on September 11) $266 billion in transactions that apparently failed to settle.… Continuing connectivity problems prevented GSCC from giving BoNY delivery instructions after the close of business on September 11 and prevented it from acquiring information on activity in its account at BoNY during the day on September 12. Consequently, GSCC recorded $440 billion in settlement fails as of the close of business on September 12." [201]

What appears to be the case is that the Federal Reserve imbalances reported on three consecutive days in the aftermath were largely concentrated at the Bank of New York, which is reported to represent over 90% of the imbalance, suggesting the Bank had been the recipient of massive fund transfers, and unable to send out transfers. Overall transactions for the day of 9/11 were seemingly down even more significantly than volume, but the transactions that came in after closing were extremely large, averaging in size in packages of $35 million or more. This would be consistent with a hypothesis that $240 billion of securities were being pushed surreptitiously into the money supply.

The Federal Reserve, without providing the detail required to substantiate it's claims, would have the public believe that there were widespread liquidity issues, when in fact the issues were very concentrated primarily, if not singularly, in the BoNY, which has been the subject of an ongoing major money-laundering investigation for many years. These account balance issues resulted in the defacto expansion of the monetary supply, details of which are no longer reported by the Federal Reserve.

The reported cause of this market malfunction is seemingly suspect. By comparison, the Deutschebank which sat inside the World Trade Center reported no such account balance increase, and JP Morgan, the other of two clearing banks which uses the same traders and communications hub, reported no such increase in account balance. Additionally, while problems were being documented between the BoNY and GCSS, no other institution had those problems.
There is a contention that at the core of the September 11th attack, someone was planning to cover the 1991 issuance of $240 billion in covert securities used to finance the collapse the Soviet Union. The facts surrounding the financial aftermath of September 11 suggest this is not only possible, but that reports describing the aftermath have deliberately been misleading.

The US dollar money supply was significantly increased in the aftermath of 9/11;

The bank at the core of the illegal money laundering by ex-Soviet criminals was the source of the increased money supply (BoNY);

The generally disseminated rationale for BoNY's operational problems seems to have affected no other bank in a similar manner or magnitude and is inconsistent with reports on the BoNY operations in the aftermath;

A key witness who might provide insight to these issues is a statistically aberrant death;

The source of the BoNY's $330 billion increase in assets is cloaked under the privilege of "private banking;"

The only alleged "severe" disruption to the financial systems was the Federal Reserves account balance and the securities trading fails – both systems required to hide the laundering of $240 billion in covert securities.

This is not a 'proof' that $240 billion was laundered, but it provides probable cause for paying serious attention.
Conclusion
History has many interpretations, and this report has been just one of many – an interpretation pieced together from the bold admissions and revelations of insiders, whose stories have been ignored and suppressed by the major media organizations. It is an interpretation of history that suggests a few determined men strove to change the world in defense of Western capitalism in ways which they felt needed to be hidden from the public. Whatever emotion or logic that was adequate to cause them to hide their actions from the public was not strong enough to prevent them from committing the acts.

The 9/11 Big Lie Gets Even Bigger

The President’s Address

On May 1, 1945, radio broadcasts throughout Germany were interrupted by the announcement that Adolf Hitler had died “heroically” earlier that day, “fighting to the last breath against Bolshevism.”¹ Sixty-six years later to the day, prime time television and radio broadcasts in the United States were interrupted with a special announcement that President Obama would be giving a major address to the nation at around 10:30 pm. No reason was given. Had someone died? Was President Obama, like LBJ in 1968 going to announce that he was not seeking re-election? The country was kept in suspense. As 10:30 came and went, rumors began circulating that Osama bin Laden, the ever elusive terrorist leader blamed for 9/11, had been killed.

At 11:30 pm Eastern Standard Time, after keeping the nation waiting, the President finally made his appearance. Dramatically he announced that Osama bin Laden, the Al Qaeda terrorist leader “responsible for the murders of thousands of innocent men, women and children,” had been killed following a firefight at his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. According to the President, Obama’s body had been retrieved and was in the custody of U.S. military forces.²

Toppling “Osama’s Statue” in front of the White House

Immediately following Obama’s speech, hundreds of students from George Washington and Howard Universities descended on Lafayette Park across from the White House, chanting, U.S.A., U.S.A! A similar outpouring took place at Ground Zero in New York City.

According to investigative reporter and former NSA analyst, Wayne Madsen, the reason for President Obama’s long delay in making his announcement was not for reasons of national security, but rather to provide time to organize students on the campuses for this “spontaneous” demonstration. Citing unnamed sources, Madsen claims David Plouffe, Obama’s political adviser, was behind the operation and that students were provided with brand new American flags.³

If Madsen’s allegations are true, the crowd in front of the White House was reminiscent of the crowd of Iraqi civilians who joined U.S Marines in toppling Saddam Hussein’s statue in Baghdad. Later it was revealed that the “spontaneous” outpouring had been a staged intelligence operation.⁴

Suspicious Burial at Sea

Nowhere in the President’s remarks was there any mention that the body of Osama bin Laden had been hastily buried at sea. That revelation would come after the President’s speech. When this astonishing detail was later revealed, the excuse given by the White House for the hasty burial at sea was to show respect for Islamic custom, which requires bodies to be buried within 24 hours of death. According to the White House, bin Laden’s body had been washed and given a 45 minute funeral onboard the aircraft carrier, USS Carl Vinson, before being dropped into the sea. Other reasons given for the sea burial were that no other country would take bin Laden’s body and they did not want to bury him on land for fear his grave would become a terrorist shrine.

Many observers familiar with Muslim custom have noted that under Islam, a Muslim is only buried at sea if he or she dies during a voyage away from land. A proper Muslim burial requires that the deceased be buried in the ground with their head facing Mecca.

Considering all the controversy and “conspiracy theories” surrounding the events of 9/11, it’s amazing that not one reporter, commentator, or news anchor of any significance within the corporate media at any level from prime time television to the supermarket tabloids even so much as raised an eyebrow at this remarkable revelation. It was as if the mainstream media had been transformed into The Stepford Wives, incapable of independent thought. Had they all forgotten about past government deceptions, such as, the Gulf of Tonkin Incident and the non-existent “weapons of mass destruction” in Iraq?

The Story Changes

On Monday, the day after the president’s address, President Obama’s Deputy National Security Advisor, John Brennan, gave a briefing for reporters at the White House. According to Brennan, Osama bin Laden had cowardly used his wife as a human shield during a firefight with a Special Forces team. The Washington Times quoted Brennan as saying:

“Here is bin Laden, who has been calling for these attacks, living in this million-dollar-plus compound, living in an area that is far removed from the front, hiding behind women who were put in front of him as a shield…”⁵

According to Brennan, Bin Laden’s wife and two other men were killed during a firefight between the terrorists and special forces team.⁶

No sooner had Brennan finished his press conference, than the original story began to unravel. The following day, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney “clarified” Brennan’s remarks. According to Carney, bin Laden was not armed and had not used his wife as a human shield.⁷

Another statement from Brennan that would later be refuted was that the President and top advisers had watched the raid on the compound in real-time from the White House Situation Room via cameras mounted on the helmets of the Navy Seal team. A photograph showing an ashen President Obama and Hillary Clinton with her hand to her mouth, as though she had just witnessed something ghastly, was released to the public.

Later it would be revealed that the photograph was of the President and his advisers watching a televised briefing about the raid given by CIA Director Leon Panetta, who was away at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. The following day, Panetta admitted that there had been a 25-minute blackout during the raid and that the President and his staff had not witnessed Osama bin Laden being killed.⁸

Adding to the confusion, Brennan had stated, during his press conference the previous day, that Osama’s son Khalid was killed during the raid. A White House transcript of Brennan’s press conference listed the son as Hamza bin Laden. When Carney was asked about the various discrepancies, he said, “Even I’m getting confused.”⁹

Osama Raid Conveniently Vindicates Use of Torture

It’s interesting that John Brennan, Obama’s senior counter terrorism expert, couldn’t get the story straight. At the time Obama chose him to be the administration’s Counter Terrorism Czar, Brennan was considered a controversial pick. During the Bush Administration, Brennan had been a leading advocate of the CIA’s extraordinary rendition program.

During an interview with reporter Margaret Warner on the News Hour with Jim Lehrer on December 5, 2005, Brennan was asked if he thought extraoridinary rendition was “a vital tool in combating terrorism.” He responded, “I think it's an absolutely vital tool. I have been intimately familiar now over the past decade with the cases of rendition that the U.S. Government has been involved in. And I can say without a doubt that it has been very successful as far as producing intelligence that has saved lives.”¹⁰

Considering this history, perhaps it’s no surprise that the Obama Administration is now crediting the CIA’s program of extraordinary rendition with helping to locate Osama bin Laden. According to the Huffington Post, a courier for bin Laden was identified as a result of interrogations of Khalid Sheihk Mohammed and Abu Faraj al-Libi. It was through a phone call the courier made to someone already under surveillance that eventually allowed the CIA to locate the courier. By following him, they were eventually able to locate bin Laden’s compound. Interestingly, Khalid Sheihk Mohammed did not reveal the courier’s name as a result of his 183 waterboardings, but as a result of routine interrogation.¹¹

According to author Ron Suskind, the waterboardings weren’t the only pressure put on Khalid Sheihk Mohammed. He had been threatened by the CIA that if he didn’t talk they would injure his children, a girl and a boy aged 9 and 7 years old. He still refused to cooperate. He is reported to have said, “You can do what you want to my children, and they will find a better place with Allah.”¹²

President Refuses to Release Photo of Dead bin Laden

On the Tuesday following the President’s announcement about Osama bin Laden, CIA Director Leon Panetta told reporters that he believed that photos taken of bin Laden’s corpse would “eventually be released.”

The following day, however, the President told Steve Kroft of CBS’s 60 Minutes that he had decided not to release the photos for fear that the gruesome images might incite violence and be used by Al Qaeda as a tool for recruitment.

Almost immediately, following the announcement of bin Laden’s death, a photograph purported to be his corpse began circulating over the Internet. Even after it was discovered to be a fake, the London Telegraph and Daily Mail continued to run with it.¹³

This gruesome image purported to be a photo of Osama bin Laden, taken after the raid on his compound in Abbottabad, circulated on the Internet briefly until astute observers noted that it was a forgery. See photos below, showing how it was faked:

Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and a number of Republican Senators were shown this faked photo in what he described as an official briefing. Brown told reporters afterwards that the image was too gruesome to release to the public, that it would inflame the terrorists. Later he admitted that the photo he had been shown was a hoax. According to Brown, it was the same photo that was floating around the Internet. When questioned, he refused to elaborate as to who gave the “official briefing.”¹⁴

When did Osama bin Laden die?

The question of whether or not Osama bin Laden is dead or alive is not an issue. Almost everyone agrees he’s dead. The question is when did he die? The most prevalent view among researchers of 9/11 is that Osama bin Laden probably died sometime in December 2001 of renal failure. This would have been around the time of the battle of Tora Bora.

David Ray Griffin believes that bin Laden died of kidney failure or complications from it on December 13, 2011.¹⁵

On December 26, 2001, Fox News, citing an unnamed source, reported that bin Laden had died of lung complications and was buried at Tora Bora, following a funeral attended by family members and close associates.¹⁶

Six months after 9/11, President Bush made an unusual statement about Osama bin Laden. When questioned during a press conference on March 13, 2002, about catching bin Laden, President Bush said matter-of-factly, “I really just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you.” His rambling answer is quite revealing:

“QUESTION: Mr. President, in your speeches now, you rarely talk or mention Osama bin Laden. Why is that? Also, can you can tell the American people if you have any more information -- if you know if he is dead or alive. Deep in your heart, don't you truly believe that until you find out if he is dead or alive, you won't really want to make...

BUSH: Well, deep in my heart, I know the man's on the run if he's alive at all. And I -- you know, who knows if he's hiding in some cave or not? We hadn't heard from him in a long time.

And the idea of focusing on one person is really -- indicates to me people don't understand the scope of the mission. Terror's bigger than one person. And he's just -- he's a person who has now been marginalized. His network is -- his host government has been destroyed. He's the ultimate parasite who found weakness, exploited it, and met his match.

He is -- you know, as I mention in my speeches -- I do mention the fact that this is a fellow who is willing to commit youngsters to their death. And he, himself, tries to hide, if, in fact, he's hiding at all.

So I don't know where he is. Nor -- you know, I just don't spend that much time on him really, to be honest with you. I'm more worried about making sure that our soldiers are well supplied, that the strategy is clear, that the coalition is strong, that when we find enemy bunched up, like we did in Shah-e-Kot mountains, that the military has all the support it needs to go in and do the job, which they did.

And there will be other battles in Afghanistan. There's going to be other struggles like Shah-e-Kot. And I'm just as confident about the outcome of those future battles as I was about Shah-e-kot, where our soldiers are performing brilliantly; we're tough, we're strong, they're well-equipped, we have a good strategy. We are showing the world we know how to fight a guerrilla war with conventional means.

QUESTION: Do you believe the threat that bin Laden posed won't truly be eliminated until he is found either dead of alive?

BUSH: As I say, we hadn't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, you know, again, I don't know where he is.

I'll repeat what I said: I truly am not that concerned about him. I know he is on the run. I was concerned about him when he had taken over a country. I was concerned about the fact that he was basically running Afghanistan and calling the shots for the Taliban.

But, you know, once we set out the policy and started executing the plan, he became -- we shoved him out more and more on the margins.

He has no place to train his al Qaeda killers anymore. And if we find a training camp, we'll take care of it -- either we will or our friends will. That's one of the things that's part of the new phase that's becoming apparent to the American people is that we're working closely with other governments to deny sanctuary or training or a place to hide or a place to raise money. And we got more work to do.

See, that's the thing the American people have got to understand -- that we've only been at this six months. This is going to be a long struggle. I keep saying that. I don't know whether you all believe me or not. But time will show you that it's going to take a long time to achieve this objective.”¹⁷

Bush’s indifference about catching Osama bin Laden was shared by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General Richard B. Myers. On April 6, 2002 he stated, “The goal has never been to get bin Laden.”¹⁸

Also it’s interesting to note that Alec Station, the CIA’s special unit dedicated to tracking Osama bin Laden, ceased operations in 2005.¹⁹

Osama’s History of Illness

On July 12, 2001, two months before 9/11, bin Laden was being treated for acute renal failure at the American Hospital in Dubai. According to the French journal, La Figaro, and Radio France, he met with the CIA’s attache, Larry Mitchell.²⁰

Following these meetings, President Bush was briefed at his ranch in Crawford, Texas by CIA Director George Tenet. The title of the briefing was “Bin Laden determined to strike in the US.”²¹

According to CBS News with Dan Rather, bin Laden was also being treated at a Pakistan Military Hospital in Rawalpindi, Pakistan on September 10, 2001, one day before 9/11.²²

Osama Identified by Facial Recognition and DNA

According to Brennan, Osama bin Laden’s identity was positively verified by statements from his wives, a DNA sample taken from his corpse and by facial recognition software of a photo of his body taken by Navy SEALs using a camera phone and uploaded to CIA headquarters. Of course, since no corpse is available for independent verification, we have to take the government at their word that they actually killed the right person.

Considering all the well-publicized cases of mistaken identity with death row inmates, this is one of the troubling aspects of President Obama’s openly proclaimed policy of extra-judicial assassination. This is a policy which first began during the Bush Administration, although other presidents have exercised similar prerogatives in secret. Under it, enemy combatants, including American citizens, can be executed on the President’s say-so without the right to a trial or appeals process.²³ Although the courts have turned a blind eye to this egregious and immoral policy, it is clearly a violation of the spirit and intent of the Bill of Rights and international law.

Originally, television reports on Sunday claimed that Osama bin Laden’s DNA had been matched to a sister who had died of cancer at Boston General Hospital awhile back. The hospital later issued a statement that it had no record of providing the government with her DNA samples.²⁴ Later, government officials, without being specific, claimed that DNA samples from multiple relatives were used to positively identify Osama bin Laden’s body. Whose DNA was tested? What was the chain of custody of bin Laden’s DNA? Without a body or knowledge about the chain of custody of bin Laden’s DNA, there is no way to verify that the government is telling the truth.

Also troubling was the fact that facial recognition was conducted after the killing. What if they had made a mistake? Would they have told us? Allegedly photo recognition software gave the images a 95 percent rate of match.²⁵ Considering all the various images purported to be Osama bin Laden, one question we should all be asking is which one of Osama bin Laden’s many faces did the software match?

Until President Obama decides to release Osama bin Laden’s death photos, we have no way of knowing.

Osama bin Laden has often been compared to the fictional character in Orwell’s dystopian novel about a totalitarian police state. Is 1984 what America has become?

In Osama Bin Laden, Dead or Alive? David Ray Griffin argues that the various video and audio tapes that purported to have been made by Osama bin Laden after 2001, were fakes created by the intelligence community to keep the War on Terror going.²⁸

As we all know, war is big business. The War on Terrorism generates billions of dollars a year for the defense establishment and provides the pretext for preemptive wars and the ever greater expansion of governmental authority.

After 2007, no more videos of Osama bin Laden appeared until the raid on his alleged compound in Abbottabad. The only tapes released after 2007 were audios of dubious credibility. The videos that appeared after 2001 were mostly still images with a sound track included. This made it impossible to determine when the video portions were actually filmed.

In the various videos that have been released over the years, different actors appear to be portraying Osama bin Laden. There was the fat bin Laden seen confessing to 9/11, the haggard bin Laden with long gray beard, and the Grecian formula bin Laden with a neatly trimmed beard dyed shoe polish black.

The confession video that was allegedly discovered by U.S. troops following the occupation of Jalalabad, Afghanistan in December of 2001, depicts a heavy set individual purported to be bin Laden bragging to al Qaeda comrades about “staging” the 9/11 attacks. In the video bin Laden is seen writing with his right hand. The real Osama bin Laden, according to the FBI, was left handed.²⁹

The elderly gentleman shown watching TV in one of the videos retrieved from the Abbottabad compound has since been identified by a neighbor as Akhbar Han, the owner of the compound.³⁰ (See figure 6.) If Akhbar doesn’t turn up soon, we can guess who’s really “swimming with the fishes.”

In 2004, three days before the Presidential Election between George W. Bush and John Kerry, an Osama bin Laden video conveniently surfaced. It was credited with giving President Bush a six-point lead over Kerry.³¹

Was the CIA behind creating this video, perhaps as a favor to Dubya’s former CIA director dad?

CIA Admits faking Osama bin Laden Videos

According to Jeff Stein of the Washington Post, the CIA did admit to creating other phony bin Laden videos along with ones of Saddam Hussein. One of their videos that never was publicized depicted Osama bin Laden as gay and sitting around a campfire drinking alcohol.³²

Was this admission a limited hangout to cover for other phony bin Laden videos purported as real?

Satellite Dish Mysteriously Appears on Side of Compound Following the Raid

After photos were released of “Osama bin Laden” watching television via satellite, there was one problem, there was no satellite dish near the compound. That was soon remedied.

Bin Laden Family

Statements from the bin Laden family need to be scrutinized carefully. The bin Ladens have maintained close ties to the Bush family for years. Osama’s older brother, Salem, was an investor in George W. Bush’s company, Arbusto Energy. On 9/11, Osama’s other brother, Shafig bin Laden, was present at a conference for the Carlyle Group in Washinton, D.C. that included among its guest list, former President George Herbert Walker Bush.

After 9/11 when all flights in the United States were grounded, the Bush Administration allowed bin Laden family members and other prominent Saudis to fly out of the country, thereby sparing them extensive questioning by FBI investigators.

In this light, statements made by Osama’s son Omar, criticizing the U.S. for killing his father, need to be examined carefully. Although seemingly critical of the U.S., Omar’s statement also gives credence to the claim that Osama bin Laden was killed at the compound, during the raid. Omar is the fourth son of bin Laden’s first wife, Syrian born Najwa Ghamen. Omar’s statement was made over an Islamist website being monitored by SITE Intelligence Group.³³

Omar, in the past, has stated that he believes his father ordered the attacks of 9/11. He is married to a British woman, Zaina Mohamed Al-Sabah, formerly Jane Felix-Browne.

The Real House Wives of Abbottabad

Other than DNA and facial recognition, the other evidence identifying Osama bin Laden came from interrogations of his three wives said to have been living at the compound along with several children.

Bin Laden has been married six times, although one of the marriages ended in divorce and another marriage was annulled shortly afterwards.

Bin Laden’s Wives listed in order of their marriages:

Najwa Ghamen, mother of Omar (Married 1974)
Khadijah Sharif (Married 1983, Divorced 1990s)
Khairiah Sabar, mother of Hamza (Married 1985)
Shiman Sabar, mother of Khalid (Married 1987)
Marriage to unidentified woman in Khartoum (Annulled)
Amal al-Sadah (Married 2000)³⁴

There are a number of oddities regarding the story about the wives in the compound.

As noted earlier, Deputy National Security Advisor John Brennan stated that Osama bin Laden had been “cowardly,” using one of his wives as a human shield and that they both were killed during a firefight. Later it was admitted that bin Laden had been unarmed and had not used his wife as a human shield. It was claimed that another man had used another woman as human shield and that both of them had been killed along with bin Laden’s courier and one of his sons. Accounts of which son was killed have been conflicting. Various reports have described the son as either Hamza or Khalid.

After the raid, Reuters released some gruesome photos of three dead men lying in pools of blood, killed in or around the compound.³⁵There were no photos of a woman killed.

According to Politico, two women had been injured during the raid and a third woman who was used as a human shield was killed during the alleged firefight.³⁶

One of the women injured was Osama’s youngest wife Amal, who was said to have been wounded in the calf while lunging at the commandos. She was taken away before Osama was killed. Her daughter, Safiyah, variously described as 11, 12, and 13 years old claims to have witnessed his capture and execution.³⁷

Who was the other woman injured and who was the woman killed?

According to the London Telegraph, there were nine women and twenty-three children living in the compound at the time of the raid.³⁸ What was the world’s most wanted man, with a $25 million bounty on his head, doing living with so many women and children? It doesn’t make sense; nor, do other aspects of the story.

Why were bin Laden’s wives not taken into custody by the Navy SEALs? If they had room for a “treasure trove” of documents and videos said to have been retrieved from the compound, why not room for key witnesses. Why were they left behind to be taken into custody by Pakistani authorities?

It’s curious that when U.S. investigators were finally allowed by Pakistani officials to interrogate the women, who were identified as: Kariah Sabar, Siham Sabar and Amal al-Sadah, a member of Pakistan’s ISI was present in the room at all times. Also, only one of the women actually spoke to American investigators. She was Kariah Sabar, also known as Umm Hamza (the mother of Hamza), the oldest of the three wives.³⁹ Why weren’t American interrogators allowed to speak to all the women?

According to Lawrence Wright in The Looming Tower, Al-Qaeda and The Road to 9/11, Umm Hamza, who was seven years older than Osama, has a PhD in Child Psycology and has taught at King Abdul Aziz University in Saudi Arabia. She is said to be a descendant of the prophet Mohamed.⁴⁰

She and wife number two, Khadija Sharif are often confused with one another in various accounts, making it difficult to determine which is which.

Strangely, no pictures of either Khairiah Sabar or Siham Sabar have been released since the raid. The only photograph of any of the wives shown to the public is that of Osama’s youngest wife Amal, from a passport photo.

Amal is said to have married Osama bin Laden in 2000, shortly before 9/11. Her current age is variously described as being 24, 26 or 29 years old, depending on who you read. Time states her current age as 24.⁴¹ The same Time article, which lists her current age as 24, says that she was 19 when she fled Afghanistan after 9/11. That would make her at least 29 years old. (Ibid.) Was this a typo? MSNBC also claims she is 24 years old and that she and Osama had their first child in 2002.⁴² If the child in question was her daughter Safiyah, that would make the child only 9 years old, not a teenager as described by various news sources.

When it comes to government accounts of what happened, fuzzy math abounds. Almost every aspect of the “Osama” killing is clouded with confusion and inconsistency. Is this all just an accident?

Was there a firefight at the compound?

During his May 1st address to the nation, President Obama stated that bin Laden had been killed during a firefight at the compound. He didn’t elaborate. The following day ABC News reporter Brian Ross appeared on The View hosted by Barbara Walters to discuss the raid on bin Laden’s compound. On a large screen he presented an animated simulation of the firefight, showing multiple shooters firing on the commandoes from inside the compound.

While a television network such as ABC certainly has the capability to produce a slick graphic of this sort overnight, it’s interesting that the presentation was ready on such short notice for the following morning. After all, the President had made his announcement late the night before.⁴³

As to the firefight, the White House would correct itself once again by stating that there had been no firefight. The battle had been extremely one-sided, with only one person firing on the SEALs from and adjacent guest house. The man said to have been firing on the SEALs was bin Laden’s alleged courier, a man identified as Ahmed Al-Kuwaiti. He and his wife were killed. The other men shot were unarmed.⁴⁴ If this version is true, then that would explain who the dead woman was.

Al-CIA-Duh

Right on cue as usual, Al Qaeda issued a communiqué in which they verified the death of Osama bin Laden. The communiqué was issued over terrorist websites according to SITE Intelligence Group.⁴⁵

SITE, which is an acronym for Search for International Terrorist Entities, mysteriously always knows where to look for terrorist messages.

SITE was founded by Rita Katz., a former Iraqi of Jewish descent, who is fluent in Arabic. Her father was executed by Saddam Hussein on suspicion of spying for Israel. After her father’s death, her family escaped Iraq and resettled in Israel. Katz is a veteran of the Israeli Defense Force and is a graduate of the University of Tel Aviv. She is currently an American citizen, residing in the United States.⁴⁶

Most Americans would be surprised to know that Al Qaeda has historically been an ally and not an enemy of the United States. Al Qaeda fought alongside the CIA and NATO in such disparate battlegrounds around the world as: Afghanistan, Chechnya, Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo, Iran, and currently Libya.⁴⁸ Was Al Qaeda also working for the CIA on 9/11?

Shortly after revealing that “Al Qaeda” was the CIA’s name for their database of Mujahideen fighters, former British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook died of a heart attack while hiking with his wife in Scotland.⁴⁹ He had earlier resigned his post in opposition to Tony Blair’s support for the War in Iraq. Although there was no evidence of foul play, in light of the suspicious death of Dr. David Kelly, one has to wonder.⁵⁰

Were any Americans killed during the raid?

According to President Obama no Americans were killed in the raid; however; one of the four helicopters, used in the raid, stalled and crashed outside bin Laden’s compound. Rather than let it fall into the wrong hands, the SEALs are said to have blown it up.

That was the official version. There is another account provided by a nearby neighbor named Mohammed Bashir, who claims to have witnessed the raid from his rooftop.

According to Bashir, who gave his account to a reporter from Pakistan’s Samaa TV, shortly after midnight, men exited the helicopter and went into the compound. After a few minutes, the men returned from the compound and began boarding the helicopter when it exploded. Bashir said the men were speaking Peshtu, an Iranian dialect spoken in Afghanistan. If this account is true, it’s not clear who these men were or if any Americans were with them.⁵¹

Was Pakistan Secretly Involved in the Raid?

Were the Pakistanis in on the raid from the beginning? President Obama alluded to this in his May 1st address, stating that, “[I]t's important to note that our counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to bin Laden and the compound where he was hiding.”⁵²

According to a story carried by the New York Times, the day after President Obama’s speech, the Pakistanis were kept in the dark about the raid. The commandos were to get in and out before the Pakistanis “detected the breach of their territory.”⁵³

Following the raid the Pakistani government issued a warning to the United States threatening “disastrous consequences” if it carried out any more “unauthorized” raids into Pakistani territory.⁵⁴

As a further sign of indignation over the raid, Pakistan’s intelligence service, the ISI, issued a statement that they would cease sharing intelligence with the United States.⁵⁵

Following this alleged break with the U.S., there was a high profile incident on May 17th, in which a NATO helicopter was fired on by Pakistani soldiers at a border post along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The NATO helicopter returned fire and two Pakistani soldiers were injured.⁵⁶ The incident took place the day after Senator John Kerry met in Islamabad with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.

In the past, Pakistani officials have publicly condemned U.S. incursions into their country and the loss of civilian life, resulting from U.S. drone strikes. Much of this outrage is feigned for public consumption inside Pakistan. Privately, the leadership from both countries have worked closely together.⁵⁷

This may have been the case with the raid on Osama’s compound. According to China’s Xinhua News Agency, the Pakistanis were in on the raid from the very beginning. Xinhua claims that the Pakistanis were responsible for cutting electricity to the compound and for cordoning off the area around the compound before the attack occurred.⁵⁸

Considering that Abbottabad is only about 50 kilometers from Pakistan’s capital of Islamabad and is home to the Kakul Military Academy, Pakistan’s version of West Point, it seems highly improbable that President Obama would risk such a mission without prior approval from the Pakistani government.

The Navy Seals might be tough hombres, but even they aren’t tough enough to fight their way out of the heart of Pakistan with only 79 men. That sort of thing only happens in Rambo movies or government accounts.

The Demise of Liberty

The killing of “Osama bin Laden” came at an opportune time for the President. His poll numbers were at an all time low, resulting from high gasoline prices and an anemic economy. Only a week earlier, thanks to public criticism from Donald Trump, he had been forced to release his long-form birth certificate, something he had refused to do throughout the 2008 Presidential Campaign.

With his announcement about the killing of Osama bin Laden, his poll numbers shot up by 13 percent, with 69 percent of Americans confident that he can “keep the nation safe.”⁵⁹

Beyond giving his campaign for reelection a boost, the raid on bin Laden’s compound conveniently coincided with pending legislation to renew the USA PATRIOT Act for another four years. Following the incident at Abbottabad, the measure passed both houses of Congress and was signed into law by President Obama, using an autopen, while he was visiting France.

The Patriot Act wasn’t the only draconian legislation being proposed in the wake of Osama’s alleged killing. Following revelations that bin Laden had been planning to derail passenger trains in the United States for the tenth anniversary of 9/11, Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer of New York proposed legislation to create a no-ride list similar to the existing no-fly list for Amtrak passengers.⁶⁰

If anyone thought the killing of Osama bin Laden would bring and end to the war on terror, they were sadly mistaken.

Just as the burning of the Reichstag ushered in an era of fascism in Germany, 9/11 has been the catalyst for preemptive wars, the evisceration of the Constitution and the establishment of an Orwellian police state in the United States. Unlike the death of Adolf Hitler, which gave closure to Europe at the end of World War II, the death of Osama bin Laden is only the beginning of America’s totalitarian descent. Since “Osama’s” death, the threat of terrorism remains ever present and the wars continue with no end in sight.

Smith was alone with his wife at the time of his death. The Baroness Smith is suspected of working for British intelligence. During the 1960s she worked for Fitzroy Maclean, the real-life model for Ian Fleming’s character, James Bond. If Al Qaeda bears a resemblance to the fictional trans-national criminal syndicate S.P.E.C.T.R.E, that may not be a coincidence. Baroness Smith served on the supervisory board of the British private intelligence firm Hakluyt. Another Hakluyt board member was Frank Wisner, Jr., Obama’s envoy to Egypt. Wisner, Jr. who is married to Christine de Ganay, the stepmother of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, was on the boards of directors for Kroll Associates and its parent company AIG at the time of 9/11. Kroll ran security for the World Trade Center. Another Hakluyt board member who was in Washington, D.C. on 9/11 was Tony Blair’s National Security Advisor, Sir David Manning. The day before 9/11 he had a meeting with Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage. Armitage and CIA Director George Tenet had traveled to Pakistan and India in the spring of 2001. General Mahmoud Ahmed’s visit to Washington, D.C. at the time of 9/11 was in response to the earlier visits by Tenet and Armitage. Indian Intelligence would later trace $100,000 wired to Mohamed Atta in Florida to General Ahmed, who on 9/11 was having breakfast with the chairmen of the Senate and House Intelligence Committees, Bob Graham and Porter Goss.

Ayman al-Zawahri, long the second in command of Al Qaeda, delivered his first public comments on the killing of his boss Osama bin Laden in an American raid last month, saying in a video eulogy posted by Al Qaeda’s media arm on Wednesday that Bin Laden had “terrified America in his life” and “will continue to terrify it after his death.”

The 28-minute video, titled “The Noble Knight Dismounted,” begins with old footage of Mr. Zawahri and Bin Laden seated together in a mountainous setting before cutting to Mr. Zawahri alone, dressed in white and seated with a rifle in front of a black background. He alternates between poetry and verse eulogizing Bin Laden, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks jihadist communications and translated the video.

Mr. Zawahri heaped praise on the slain terrorist leader, calling him “the noble emir” and a “heroic fighter” before vowing to continue Bin Laden’s efforts to “expel the invaders from the land of Islam.”

Speaking of Yemen, Mr. Zawahri said he hoped that the months of unrest there would bring about “a good regime that rules in accordance with Shariah” that “expels the Americans and their henchmen.” Even before that country’s current political crisis, militants connected to Al Qaeda had gained a foothold in Yemen, an American ally in fighting terrorism. The United States and Saudi Arabia have worked to head off a power vacuum that could provide militants a further opportunity.

In the video, Mr. Zawahri also called on Pakistanis to revolt against their leaders, “just as your brothers in Tunisia,Egypt, Libya and Syria have done.”

Al Qaeda has been without a declared leader since May 2, when members of the Navy Seals raided a compound inAbbottabad, Pakistan, where Bin Laden had been hiding for years, and killed him.

While Mr. Zawahri would appear the likeliest successor to lead Al Qaeda, he is seen to lack Bin Laden’s charisma and ideological leadership ability, appearing to be more of a professorial scold than a leader likely to inspire new recruits.

In an English-language video message released last week, a Qaeda spokesman, Adam Gadahn, urged individual jihadists not to wait for instructions but to attack whenever and wherever they can. There has been no formal announcement about who would replace Bin Laden.

Mr. Zawahri, an Egyptian and former surgeon, is believed to be hiding in remote mountainous reaches of Pakistan — though that theory, which also had Bin Laden in such a location, was called into question after Bin Laden was found in Abbottabad, a middle-class town and home to a large Pakistani military base.

The Wednesday video posting followed an audio recording by Mr. Zawahri that appeared online in late May, but was said to have been recorded before Bin Laden’s death, according to SITE International. In the audio message, Mr. Zawahri addressed the revolutions and unrest spreading across the Middle East, throwing his support behind protesters in Syria and Libya while denouncing NATO and United States, saying the Western powers had backed repressive governments.

Tenth Anniversary Hearings on the Events of September 11, 2001‏‏

On the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the International Center for 9/11 Studies will sponsor four days of citizen hearings at Ryerson University in the city of Toronto, Canada. These international hearings will be commonly referred to as the Toronto Hearings and more information can be found at http://torontohearings.org/ .

The objectives of the hearings are as follows:

1. To present evidence that the U.S. government's official investigation into the events of September 11, 2001, as pursued by various government and government-appointed agencies, is seriously flawed and has failed to describe and account for the 9/11 events.

2. To single out the most weighty evidence of the inadequacy of the U.S. government's investigation; to organize and classify that evidence; to preserve that evidence; to make that evidence widely known to the public and to governmental, non-governmental and inter-governmental organizations.

3. To submit a record and a summary of the Hearings, together with signed Statutory Declarations by witnesses, to relevant governments, groups and international agencies with the request that a full and impartial investigation be launched into the events of September 11, 2001, which have been used to initiate military invasions and to restrict the rights of citizens.

4. To engage the attention of the public and media through witness testimony as well as through public talks and media events during the four day event.
